Bead Blasting vs Tumbling for Deburring
Core Principle
Both are finishing processes used to deburr and improve surface texture, but they work differently and produce different results.
Bead Blasting
• Process: Propels fine glass beads at surface
• Result: Uniform, non-reflective matte (satin) finish
• Good for: Surface cleaning and light burr removal
• Limitation: Not effective for heavy burrs
Tumbling (Vibratory Deburring)
• Process: Parts vibrate in tub with abrasive media
• Result: Effectively removes burrs, gently rounds sharp edges
• Good for: Heavy burr removal and edge softening
• More aggressive deburring action
Selection Guide:
• Bead blasting: Uniform appearance and light burr cleaning
• Tumbling: Efficient machine burr removal and edge softening
